What this website collects
Two forms collect information. The consultation form asks for your name, phone number, email address, the practice area, your preferred date and way to meet, and anything you write in the details field. The contact form asks for your name, phone number, email address, the practice area, how you would like to be contacted, and your message. Only your name and email address are required; everything else is optional and the form says so. The website also records ordinary technical information — the pages requested, the time, and the browser and device type — which is what a web server logs to work at all.
Why it is collected, and who receives it
The information you send is used to answer you, to check whether the firm can act for you, and to arrange a consultation. It goes to Appiah Opoku Boateng and to nobody else at the firm, because the firm is one lawyer. It is not sold, rented or traded, and it is not used for advertising.
A message is not confidential until the firm agrees to act
Sending a form or an email does not make the firm your lawyer, and what you send is not privileged until the firm confirms in writing that it can act for you. Before then, please send only a short summary of your matter and the names of anyone else involved, which is what the firm needs to check for a conflict. Do not send documents or sensitive details. Email and web forms travel over the internet, which can be intercepted, so nothing sent this way can be guaranteed private.
Who else holds it, and where
This website is hosted by Cloudflare, a company in the United States, and messages from the forms are delivered by email. Payments made through the "Pay online" link are handled by Stripe, which is also in the United States; the firm never sees your card number, and Stripe has its own privacy terms. Information held in another country can be reached by that country's courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under that country's law.
How long it is kept
An enquiry that does not become a file is kept for twelve months and then deleted. If the firm acts for you, your file is kept for as long as the firm's professional obligations as a licensee of the Law Society of Ontario require, and the firm can tell you what that period is for your matter.
How it is protected
The website is served over an encrypted connection, the firm keeps its own devices and accounts protected, and access to messages is limited to the lawyer. No website or email can promise perfect security, which is why this page asks you not to send sensitive material through a form.
Your choices
You can ask what personal information the firm holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, and withdraw your consent to further contact at any time. You can ask the firm to delete what it holds, and it will do so unless a professional obligation requires it to be kept. Write to info@ashantilaw.ca and the firm will answer within thirty days.
If you are not satisfied
Raise it with the firm first, at info@ashantilaw.ca. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, which oversees the federal private-sector privacy law that applies to this firm.
Cookies and measurement
This website uses only the cookies needed to make it work, and runs no advertising trackers. It counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookie and does not follow you to other websites: it records which pages are read, the kind of device, and the country, without identifying you. The contact forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a message was sent by a person and not by a program.
Other websites
Links to other websites are for convenience. The firm does not control them and is not responsible for what they collect; read their own privacy policies.
Children
This website is not directed at children, and the firm does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
